Harry Potter Actress Set to Appear in the Show as part of World Stages London

The World Stages London event is set to feature a number of shows across various London venues in 2012 and one of these is “Wild Swans”, which will appear at the Young Vic Theatre from April to May. Today it has been revealed that Katie Leung will be appearing in the play, providing a familiar face to London theatre audiences as she previously starred in the “Harry Potter” movies in the role of Cho Chang (Harry’s girlfriend).

“Wild Swans” is based on the famous Chinese novel “Wild Swans: Three Daughters of China” and looks at a family over the course of a century. From the early days of Communism when hope and struggle are on the agenda through Mao’s Cultural Revolution and eventually the rise of a new superpower, the story is an epic one seen through the eyes of a brave family. The book is enormously popular around the world and was penned by Jung Chang, with Alexandra Wood adapting it for the stage. The production is set to be directed by Sacha Wares.

Katie Leung appeared in the movie “Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix” and received a lot of attention due to that movie’s onscreen kiss between her character and Harry Potter, before appearing in the latest movie “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 2”. Her casting was part of a large search for an actress to fill the role and in the end she beat over 3,000 contestants for the part. In the years since her appearance in the iconic film series she has also gone on to appear in further roles, including “Agatha Christie’s Poirot: Cat Among the Pigeons”.

The Young Vic has two other shows to appear on its stage in 2012 before “Wild Swans” opens its doors in April and they take the forms of “Bingo”, with Patrick Stewart as William Shakespeare, and “The Changeling”, which concerns sex, love and madness.

“Wild Swans” is set to take to the stage of the Young Vic from Friday 13th April 2012 to Sunday 13th May 2012.
