In 2011 Zach Braff once again returned to the stage in New York as his play “All New People” ran at the Second Stage Theatre. But now it is clear that audiences on the other side of the Atlantic won’t be the only ones that get to witness his latest work as those in the United Kingdom will also be getting a look in. The production, which is set to retain its original director Peter DuBois, also appears in Glasgow and Manchester, in addition to the Duke of York’s Theatre in London’s West End, where it replaces Beatles musical “Backbeat”.
Braff is best known for his long-running role in the television series “Scrubs” in which he portrayed Dr John “JD” Dorian, though he does have a background in theatre and recent years have seen him in New York, where he appeared in “Trust” at the Second Stage Theatre and “Twelfth Night” for Shakespeare in the Park. In addition to “Scrubs” he has also appeared in shows like “Arrested Development” and has starring roles in movies like “The Last Kiss” and “The Ex”. In 2004 he also directed and appeared in “Garden State” with Natalie Portman and Ian Holm.
Meanwhile, director Peter DuBois has been behind various shows on the other side of the Atlantic, in addition to “Becky Shaw” at London’s Almeida Theatre. He previously worked with Braff on “Trust” at the Second Stage Theatre in New York, in addition to other credits like “Jack Goes Boating”, “Richard III”, “Sons of the Prophet”, “Prelude to a Kiss”, “Rapture, Blister, Burn” and “The Miracle at Naples”. He is also the Artistic Director of the Huntington Theatre Company, with whom many of these shows were staged over the years, whilst some of his work has also appeared in other locations across the United States.
In “All New People” the plot is focused on the character of Charlie, a man who has hit rock bottom and is spending his 35th birthday hiding away at his friend’s luxury apartment. He wants a quiet birthday but this is sorely interrupted by the appearances of numerous colourful characters, including an eccentric British estate agent.
“All New People” appears in Glasgow and Manchester prior to its run at the Duke of York’s Theatre, where it runs from Wednesday 22nd February 2012 to Saturday 28th April 2012.
