A talented cast takes to the stage of Trafalgar Studios 1 this October under the direction of Alan Strachan as “Three Days in May” by Ben Brown plays out in front of London theatre audiences. Among the cast members is Warren Clarke (“Dalziel and Pascoe”), Jeremy Clyde (“The Falklands Play”) and Robert Demeger (“The Hour”) and they take on well known names from history as audiences get a glimpse at the decision making during the Second World War. They portray Winston Churchill, Lord Halifax and Neville Chamberlain respectively but characters also include Clement Attlee, Arthur Greenwood, Jock Colville and General Dill, among others.
The “Three Day in May” of the title refers to a crucial part of the war effort against the Nazis as Winston Churchill faces his war cabinet and encourages them on a decision that may change the face of the free world forever. Churchill is the new Prime Minister of the United Kingdom and whilst there are those that advocate giving in to Hitler he attempts to make the case that the fight against fascism must go on. So as the war continues we get a glimpse at the workings behind the scenes of Ten Downing Street.
Warren Clarke has appeared in a wide range of roles over the years, perhaps most notably (at least with modern audiences) “Dalziel and Pascoe”. However, his time in the spotlight has also seen him appear in other television shows like “George Gently”, “Agatha Christie’s Why Didn’t They Ask Evans?” and “Coronation Street”. Meanwhile, he has also worked alongside some well known names connected with the silver screen like Clint Eastwood, Val Kilmer and Stanley Kubrick with movie credits like “Firefox”, “Top Secret!” and “A Clockwork Orange”.
Robert Demeger has appeared in various screen and stage roles over the years with television and film credits like “Doctor Who”, “Waking the Dead”, “Holby City” and, most notably, “The Hour”. For the stage he has appeared in “Hamlet” at the Barbican Theatre in 2004, “A Busy Day” at the Lyric Theatre in 2000 and “Medea” at the Wyndham’s Theatre in 1993.
The rest of the cast includes James Alper, Dicken Ashworth, Timothy Knightley, Paul Ridley and Michael Sheldon.
“Three Days in May” follows “Top Girls” at the Trafalgar Studios 1 from Wednesday 2nd November 2011 (previews from Monday 31st October 2011) until Saturday 3rd March 2012.
