Synopsis

London theatre audiences will be flocking to the Royal Albert Hall this October to celebrate the 25th anniversary of “The Phantom of the Opera”, which has been running at Her Majesty’s Theatre since 1986. It will be an opportunity for fans from around the world to relish in the production that has become one of the famous musicals around, proven by its ticket sales, the arrival of its sequel “Love Never Dies” in 2010, and its movie adaptation with Gerard Butler. So audiences that have enjoyed the compelling story of The Phantom as he wreaks havoc at the Paris Opera House will not want to miss this 25th anniversary production.

Two performers familiar to the show’s iconic roles will be taking on the parts of the Phantom and Christine Daaé in Ramin Karimloo and Sierra Boggess and they also join Wynne Evans, Barry James, Liz Robertson and Gareth Snook onstage, in addition to musicians and guest stars. So it is going to be quite the spectacle to celebrate the famous musical story and if last year’s celebrations of “Les Miserables” – which featured Matt Lucas and Nick Jonas among others – are anything to go by this is going to be something to remember.

Karimloo is best known for portraying the Phantom in both “The Phantom of the Opera” at Her Majesty’s Theatre and “Love Never Dies” at the Adelphi Theatre. During his career he has also appeared in various other shows that have appeared in the West End and around the country. His credits include “Les Miserables” when it was staged at the Palace Theatre, “Sunset Boulevard” on a nationwide tour and “Miss Saigon” on another UK tour. He also landed a small role in the movie version of “The Phantom of the Opera” in 2004 by playing Christine’s dad Gustave Daaé.

The story of “The Phantom of the Opera” focuses on the Paris Opera House in the 1880s when audiences flock for miles to witness some glamorous shows. But there is also a legendary figure attached to the proceedings – a disfigured young composer who wears a signature face mask - and when things do not go his way he wreaks havoc. So when a beautiful young singer named Christine Daaé fails to land a role in the new opera “Il Muto” all hell breaks loose.

Performances of “The Phantom of the Opera at the Royal Albert Hall” are set to occur on Saturday 1st October 2011 at 7:30pm and Sunday 2nd October 2011 at 7:00pm.
