When looking at the West End landscape it is easy to find adult or family friendly shows all over town, but what about productions which cater specifically for children, particularly during the school holidays? Thankfully the capital offers something for everyone and and to prove it “The Tiger Who Came to Tea” continues its run at the Vaudeville theatre. It opened in July 2011 and is set to continue until early September. With a chaotic story featuring a troublemaking tiger it is suitable for anyone over the age of 3.
In “The Tiger Who Came to Tea” we are introduced to the characters of Sophie and her mother just as they are preparing to sit down for tea. That doesn’t sound like a very interesting night, but this is going to be like no other as a large and stripy tiger turns up at their house! As the animal eats and drinks everything in the house it becomes clear that tea will have to wait. Thankfully the problem is solved when Dad comes home and he suggests eating, but only time will tell if their stripy new friend is going to be making a return visit tomorrow.
The play is adapted from the story book from Judith Ker and was previously seen by London theatre audiences when it was staged at the Wyndham’s Theatre in 2009. Its latest run will introduce plenty of new theatre fans to Kerr’s work and they might even want to check out her other work, which includes “One Night at the Zoo”, “Twinkles, Arthur and Puss” and “When Hitler Stole Pink Rabbit”, among others.
“The Tiger Who Came to Tea” is at the Vaudeville Theatre from Friday 8th July 2011 (with previews from Wednesday 6th July 2011) to Sunday 4th September 2011.
