Synopsis

“Precious Little Talent” is the story of 20-somethings and the world they face after graduation, portraying a compelling narrative as one generation strives not to be forgotten and the generation above them hopes not to forget them. It has been penned by the promising young playwright Ella Hickson, whose previous show “Eight” earned great acclaim when it ran at the Trafalgar Studios, with James Dacre taking on the role of director following his work realising the Laurence Olivier Award-winning production “The Mountaintop” which ran at Trafalgar Studios in 2009. So ignoring the title of the play – ‘precious little talent’ is not a way to describe the behind-the-scenes skills of those behind the production.

Hickson has been considered a promising young talent since she left university and whilst she has penned work for the theatre she has also worked in television and radio as well. Her credits for the stage, in addition to “Precious Little Talent” and “Eight”, include the recent show “PMQ” as well, which appeared at Theatre503. The Daily Telegraph and other papers consider her someone to keep an eye on, with the former saying: “Ella Hickson – remember the name, for I suspect we will be hearing a lot more of her”.

And few could argue with that when they witness “Precious Little Talent” at the London theatre in April. It follows a 20-something in the form of Joey who has previously graduated from university with mountains of debt and a first-class degree. But instead of excelling in a graduate profession she instead works at a pub and it looks as though she is part of a generation that is soon to be forgotten. We follow her as she travels to the United States and reunites with her father in New York – himself part of the generation that strives not to forget them – and whilst there finds new hope in an idealistic young American.

Trafalgar Studios regularly welcomes some acclaimed and stand-out shows. In addition to the mentioned “Eight” and “The Mountaintop” is also welcomes “Lidless” this season, focusing on the brutal work carried out at Guantanamo Bay. As such “Precious Little Talent” is a show that is in safe hands as it nears its April runtime.

“Precious Little Talent” runs at Trafalgar Studios 2 from Friday 8th April 2011 (previews from Tuesday 5th April 2011) to Saturday 30th April 2011.
