The West End is known for an array of shows, whether they be musicals, plays comedy or variety, but sometimes something comes along that fuses these forms together to create something that audiences will only see once. With music, comedy, physical performance and improvisation combining onstage, London theatre audiences will be able to witness something truly unique in early 2011, something that will be specific to the night at hand and something that no-one can predict in advance. It is none other than Alex Horne’s “The Horne Section”, a show that has previously been seen at London’s Soho Theatre and at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe and now makes its way to the West End.
Alex Horne is a comedian that has regularly appeared on stages across the UK, from his debut show at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe entitled “How to Avoid Huge Ships” to his television appearance on the game show “Countdown”. But with “The Horne Section” he has created something that is unlike any other comedy or variety show in the country, with a live band performing alongside comedians (which, in the past, have included Mark Watson, Tim Key, Al Murray, Jimmy Carr and more). The results are hilarious and unexpected.
Mark Watson is a comedian that has appeared alongside Horne on television and on stages nationwide, but on Monday 31st January 2011 he performed in “The Horne Section” for the first night of the show’s West End run. The comedian is best known for appearances on television shows like “Mock the Week”, “We Need Answers” – which featured Horne in its crew – and “Mark Watson Kicks Off”, in addition to the radio series “Mark Watson Makes the World Substantially Better”.
He appeared alongside Tim Key, Andrew Van Buren and The Pottery's Porcelain Plate Spinner, among others. It goes to show that you never really know what you are going to get with “The Horne Section” until you’ve gotten hold of theatre tickets and witnessed the show first hand. After all, whoever makes it to the stage is going to be an expert in providing laughs and doing so without the use of a strict script. If previous shows are anything to go by then the results will be unforgettable.
“The Horne Section” began its run at the Lyric Theatre on Monday 31st January 2011. It continues until Monday 14th March 2011.
