Vibrant and camp; these are two words that have been attributed to Michael Twaits’ hit exposé on the modern day queer community in “Confessions of a Dancewhore”. The show seeks to combine various forms of entertainment to present an evening of cabaret style performance that will not be soon forgotten as it arrives at Trafalgar Studios 2 this summer. It follows previous appearances in the capital that have served to give it a positive reception, whilst Twaits’ other productions such as “The One You Love” and “Icons” have demonstrated that he is a unique talent that many have their eyes on.
With the shows “The One You Love”, “Icons” and “Confessions of a Dancewhore”, Twaits demonstrated a remarkable ability to put together shows that relish in the world of cabaret, using different art forms to get across their messages. With “The One You Love”, the subject was romance and the ways in which it changes lives, whilst “Icons” utilised similar techniques to take a look at the world of the celebrity.
Confessions of a Dancewhore, on the other hands, looks at the inconsistencies prevalent in the stereotypes and misconceptions of the modern day queer community. It promises to explore political exploits and the camp scene as various theatrical styles combine in a compelling evening of cabaret style. It means that audience members will relish in the hilarious stand-up comedy aspects, delight in the spectacular dance routines and become transfixed on musical numbers, whilst the utilisation of new media enhances the experience to a new level. It will result in a memorable story and one that will open eyes as well as entertain.
With all of these shows, plus his work for television in the likes of “The Value of Nothing” and “Close Call”, Michael Twaits has proven that he has what it takes to be a successful artist. The press continues to shower him with praise and as the years go by, there is no telling what he might emerge with next.
For now, “Confessions of a Dancewhore” takes on its next step in the West End, having already appeared in locations like the Oval House theatre to great success, where it is likely to leave a lasting impression.
