It took audiences by storm at the Lyric Hammersmith and carried warnings due to the moments of tension and shock it contains. Now, “Ghost Stories” makes its way to the West End, where it will entertain audiences at the Duke of York’s Theatre from July.
The show comes from writers Jeremy Dyson and Andy Nyman, who also direct alongside Sean Holmes, whilst actors include Nyman alongside Ryan Gage, David Cardy and Nicholas Burns.
Jeremy Dyson is best known for his work with the comedy team “The League of Gentleman”, which he created alongside Steve Pemberton, Reece Sheersmith and Mark Gatiss. It means that his work has been heard on the radio and seen on television and in film, but he also has various other credits to his name, including various novels like “The Cranes that Build the Cranes” and “Bright Darkness: Lost Art of the Supernatural Horror Film”. His other credits include co-creating the television series “Funland” and performing with the band “Rudolf Rocker”.
Meanwhile, Nyman is an English actor who has appeared in television shows such as Charlie Brooker’s “Dead Set”, “Severance” and “Coney Island Baby”. His other roles include movies such as Frank Oz’s “Death at a Funeral”, “Wild Romance”, “Are You Ready For Love?” and “Uprising”. However, his most celebrated work has been alongside Derren Brown, with him he co-wrote and co-created his television series and stage shows, with “Derren Brown: The Heist” earning him a nomination at the 2007 BAFTA Awards.
“Ghost Stories” does exactly as the title suggests and if the mentioned warning is anything to by – it does it very well indeed. But it is not just shocks and scares that define “Ghost Stories” – there are also moments of humour as well, which ensure that this is a memorable experience in a multitude of ways. The result is a compelling piece of the theatre, which adds a much-needed scare story to the London theatre scene and with critical acclaim and audience appreciation to match, it is certain to be a West End hit.
Ghost Stories makes its anticipated appearance at the West End’s Duke of York’s Theatre from Tuesday 13th July 2010 (previews from Friday 25th June 2010) to Sunday 7th November 2010.
