Audiences will be flocking to the Shaftesbury Theatre this summer to witness the latest dance spectacular to land from Broadway – “Burn the Floor”. It is a show that has many admirers around the world, who lap up the spectacular dance moves on display, which feature Latin and Ballroom styles performed by some of the best dancers on Earth. It will also receive particular attention for its guest stars – two performers who many will recognise from the hit television series “Strictly Come Dancing” - Brian Fortuna and Ali Bastian. With choreography from a World Champion dancer and worldwide recognition, “Burn the Floor” is the latest West End show that no-one should miss!
It was originally conceived for the birthday of Elton John back in 1997, but “Burn the Floor” soon found an audience beyond this and by 2009 it was pulling in big crowds in New York to make it a Broadway hit. It made a West End appearance inevitable and when it arrives at the Shaftesbury Theatre it is certain to delight on various levels.
In fact, audiences are likely to be taken on a memorable journey as 20 award-winning dancers from around the globe are brought to the stage to present a passionate telling of dance and the drama it encompasses. The result is a journey through the Lindy, the Jive, the Foxtrot, the Charleston, the Cha-Cha and the Rumba. And that’s not all; by the time the curtain falls on this dance extravaganza, audiences will also have witnessed the likes of the Swing, the Mambo, the Quickstep and beyond. When it comes to dance, “Burn the Floor” has all the best bases covered.
“Burn the Floor” also boasts the choreography of a dance icon – the World Champion Jason Gilkison who held the title of Australian World Champion through most of the 1990s and the 80s before it, whilst receiving the honour around the world as well. He is a director, producer and choreographer who has worked on shows such as “Extreme Ballroom”, “Floorplay” and “Back with a Vengeance” – a segment from the closing ceremony of the 200 Sidney Olympic Games.
So make sure head down to the Shaftesbury Theatre this summer to witness “Burn the Floor”, which runs from Monday 26th July 2010 (previews from Wednesday 21st July 2010) to Saturday 4th September 2010.
