Clayton Littlewood is a writer and performer who used to work in a menswear store in Soho called “Dirty White Boy”. Whilst carrying out designated duties he would also blog about passers-by and eventually his tale was told in a serialised format in “The London Paper”. These episodes, titled “Soho Stories”, would detail those who came in and out of the shop and with time the story would make its way to the stage.
The result is a new West End show in the form of “Dirty White Boy: Tales of Soho”, which appears at Trafalgar Studios 2 this May. It will feature Littlewood himself as a narrator, with David Benson performing various roles and former Eurovision hopeful Alexis Gerred providing torch songs.
It is the latest step for a writer who first arrived in London to make it in a band. Littlewood’s early jobs in the capital included writing for “The London Paper” and making contributions to BBC Radio Shows. Amongst his credits at the time was a West Country Aromatherapist he portrayed on Pirate Radio called Doctor Bunty.
So it is safe to say that he has amassed plenty of theatrical experience in London and when “Dirty White Boy” makes its way to the stage of Trafalgar Studios it is certain to provide a unique experience for London theatregoers.
This is also true of its star David Benson, who has been seen around the United Kingdom performing as an actor and comedian and also working as a writer. His credits include the recurring role of Noel Coward in the sitcom “Goodnight Sweetheart”, though he is best known for his portrayal of Kenneth Williams in “Think No Evil of Us”, which appeared at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe. His other credits include “Nothing But Pleasure”, “It’s a Plot! David Benson’s Conspiracy Cabaret” and “David Benson’s Haunted Stage”. In London, he might also be familiar to audiences for his appearance in Eugene Ionseco’s “Rhinoceros” at the Lyric Hammersmith.
Alexis Gerred will be familiar to different audiences, however, having appeared in the BBC talent show “Your Country Needs You”. It saw him reach the final and narrowly miss out on representing Britain in the Eurovision Song Contest.
“Dirty White Boy: Tales of Soho” makes its way to Trafalgar Studios 2 where it runs from Friday 30th April 2010 (previews from Monday 26th April 2010) to Saturday 22nd May 2010.
