Synopsis

Three visions of the Middle East make their way to the stage of Trafalgar Studios 2 in 2010 in “The Fever Chart” by American playwright Naomi Wallace, who has already received considerable praise for her compelling and horrifying account of an unimaginable world of war.

Under the direction of Katie Posner and Marcus Romer, “The Fever Chart: Three Visions of the Middle East” is presented by both the Pilot Theatre and York Theatre Royal, who have seen the show stand on the receiving end of critical admiration already from its appearances at venues across the country.

It is the latest in a long line of critically acclaimed shows from renowned playwright Naomi Wallace, who partly resides in the Yorkshire Dales and has produced many layered works, from plays like “One Flea Spare” and “In the Hearts in America” to films such as “The War Boys” and “Lawn Dogs”. She is also a poet and has penned pieces such as “To Dance in a Stony Fiel”

Her play “One Flea Spare” is set within the world of the Black Plague, whilst her play “In the Hearts of America” asks us to reinterpret the suffering of her characters as they go through their everyday lives. She has also penned plays such as “Slaughter City”, “The Trestle at Pope Lick Creek” and “The Hard Weather Boating Party”.

With “The Fever Chart”, she works with a subject she has been familiar with as an advocate for Palestinian rights in the Middle East. It takes the form of three separate stories that look at the effect on the human condition and the way in which humanity manifests itself in such horrific situations and setting. It is said to be a deeply personal account of a world where the harsh realities of war are a world away from the everyday circumstances we are used to.

The Pilot Theatre Company is no stranger to high praise and its previous productions have been given the thumbs up from many critics over many years. It is certainly a company to keep an eye on who are likely to appear with various critically acclaimed productions in the future.

The Fever Chart appears at Trafalgar Studios 2 from Tuesday 9th March 2010 and runs until Saturday 3rd April 2010.
