Synopsis

The Hollywood musical star comes to the West End for twelve performances of her solo show, hoping to attract a large number of punters for a very special evening. It will be a unique opportunity to witness the star of musicals such as “Oklahoma!” and “Carousel”, plus television shows such as “The Partridge Family” and marks the first time that Shirley Jones has ever performed in the United Kingdom. So make sure you get tickets for this performance at the Arts Theatre this spring.

Shirley Jones has enjoyed a long and successful career as a stage and screen star, appearing in movie musicals, dramas and television shows. Her long lasting fame has allowed her to entertain fans for many decades making her upcoming West End debut all the more anticipated. The solo show has only so far been described as a special event and an occasion in which a living legend performs in the UK for the first time. It is certainly safe to say that the evening will be a memorable one and give fans of the screen icon and hugely enjoyable experience.

Shirley Jones became famous around the world when, as a relative newcomer, she was cast in the movie version of “Oklahoma!” in 1955. The following year she appeared in a European tour of the show and soon she appeared in further musical films such as “Carousel”, “April Love” and “The Music Man”. She also portrayed a prostitute in the movie “Elmer Gantry” – a role that earned her an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress and raised her profile even further. As time went by she went on to portray Shirley Partridge in the sitcom “The Partridge Family” and this is the role for which she is most famous.

Whilst the star will be making her West End debut with “Shirley Jones in Concert”, she has appeared in a wide range of stage shows in the States. These include “South Pacific” (1953), “Maggie Flynn” (1967) and “42nd Street”, all on Broadway, with further productions such as “Me and Juliet” and “The Sound of Music” in various locations across the country.

The legend of Hollywood and a star of Broadway makes her West End debut with “Shirley Jones in Concert” at the Arts Theatre from Monday 22nd March 2010 to Saturday 3rd April 2010.
