Synopsis

“Nunsense A-Men” is set to be a musical comedy sensation when it opens at the Arts Theatre in London’s West End. It is a story of five nuns and their hilarious antics whilst trying to manage a fundraiser, with a host of male musical comedy performers donning traditional robes and presenting the classic Broadway musical in a brand new way.

The original version of “Nunsense” opened in 1985 and found huge success in an off-Broadway location, before appearing on stages all around the world. Having started out life as a series of greeting cards, “Nunsense” was now a global musical sensation with fans everywhere. It would go on to spawn sequels and spin-offs for years to come.

One such spin-off is “Nunsense A-Men”, taking the original premise of the show and adding a drag twist. It started out life as “Novicas Rebeldes” in Brazil and would soon be translated into English with a New York premiere in 1998. It would become a huge success in its own right, with positive reviews and encouraging word of mouth carrying it across the next decade.

In “Nunsense A-Men” we are introduced to five nuns in the form of Sister Leo, Sister Robet Anne, Sister Mary Amnesia, Sister Mary Hubert and Mother Superior Sister Regina. These are the only members of the Sisterhood remaining after a bout of botulism from Sister Julia’s vichyssoise wiped out the other members. But to lay their friends to rest, the sisters are going to need some money and what begins as an idea involving greetings cards evolves into a full blown talent show, with hilarious dance routines, solo turns from befuddled nuns and an audience quiz just some of the madcap antics taking place onstage.

“Nunsense A-Men”, when it arrives on the stage of the Arts Theatre, will be directed by Phil Wilmott a writer and director who is highly experienced in bringing shows like these to the stage. His previous credits include “Fame” at the Aldwych Theatre, “Dirty White Boy and Falling Stars” at the Trafalgar Studios, “Blowing Whistles” at Leicester Square Theatre and “I Love You You’re Perfect, Now Change” at the Jermyn Street Theatre.

“Nunsense A-Men” is at the Arts Theatre from Monday 25th January 2010 to Thursday 25th March 2010.
