Synopsis

It is Christmas time once more and to celebrate the Lyric Theatre is calling on the talents of Frisky and Mannish to entertain audiences with an all star line up of popular entertainers.

Frisky and Mannish have had quite a year after selling out at the 2009 Edinburgh Festival Fringe – with their “School of Pop” show proving to be big draw in the Scottish capital in August. Now they make their West End debut with “A Frisky and Mannish Christmas”, in which they showcase the Twisted Pop Cabaret for all to see.

To do so they will be calling on some well known names from the industry, with special guest performances from Des O’Connor as MC, alongside The Puppini Sisters, Angelos Epithemiou, Bruce Airhead and the Kalki Hula Girl.

Des O’Connor needs no introduction, having enjoyed a long career that has spanned many decades. He has hosted numerous television shows and also released various songs as part of a successful singing career. Amongst his credits are “The Des O’Connor Show” in the 1960s, “Take Your Pick” in the 1990s, “Today with Des and Mel” this decade and “Countdown” following the departure of Des Lynam in the presenter’s chair. His singing career, on the other hand, has seen him release more than 30 albums and appear on numerous variety shows that aired on both sides of the Atlantic.

The Puppini Sisters are a trio of girls that hark back to the musical style of the 1940s, often associated with the burlesque revival that has emerged in recent years. Their line up includes English girls Stephanie O’Brien and Kate Mullins, plus Italian girl Marcella Puppini and together they showcase a sound that adds a new twist to the classic swing of bygone decades. Their singles include “Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy”, “Spooky” and “Crazy in Love” across albums such as “Betcha Bottom Dollar” and “The Rise and Fall of Ruby Woo”.

Another of the guest appearances is from Angelos Epithemiou, who many will remember as a permanent team member on the most recent series of “Shooting Stars”. Also known as Renton Skinner, he has appeared on numerous television shows such as “The Armstrong and Miller Show” and “Coupling”.

Expect an entertaining evening of great comedy and music as Frisky and Mannish deliver a range of riffs from the likes of Bing Crosby, Mariah Carey and Wham!, whilst special guests ensure that the evening is full of surprises.

“A Frisky and Mannish Christmas” is at the Lyric Theatre on Monday 21st December 2009.
