It has been witnessed by audiences around the world, eager to see the spectacle that earned it rave reviews from international critics and made it a highly recommended experience. As audiences in global cities continue to talk up this dance show as an un-missable 21st Century event, it arrives in London in 2010 for its UK premiere.
The show is entitled “Tanguera” and it is Argentina’s blockbusting international tango musical. Hailed as a unique expression of dance, audiences are warned that it is no normal tango show, whilst still managing to embrace everything that makes the tango so wild and so entertaining. It first emerged for audiences in 2002, premiering at home in Buenos Aires and soon finding international footing that would propel it to superstardom.
More than 30 male and female dancers and singers take to the stage to tell the story of “Tanguera”, already making it stand out amongst other tango shows by daring to follow a narrative and see it through to the end.
And so award-winning choreographers, along with talented dancers and singers have joined together to tell the story of Giselle as she arrives in Argentina from her native France. She forms part of the first wave of immigrants from Europe, hoping to settle in the Americas for a new life. When she first arrives, it does not take long for her to work her magic on the local men and amongst them is Lorenzo, a port worker in La Boca, with whom she meets upon her arrival. He falls instantly in love with the women, but he is going to have to work hard to make things work between them as Giselle begins to slip into the seedy underworld of Buenos Aires. Lorenzo soon realises that to win her love, he is going to have to fight for it.
It should prove to be a memorable show, one that manages to move the audience whilst it is wowing them with spectacular works of dance. It will be the perfect addition to the Sadler’s Wells repertoire, demonstrating how this company is the home of dance for British audiences.
“Tanguera” makes its appearance at Sadler’s Wells Theatre from Tuesday 3rd August 2010 to Sunday 22nd August 2010.
