Sadler’s Wells will soon be graced with the performing talent of Paco Peña as he arrives with his show “Flamenco Sin Fronteras”, promising a great evening of flamenco music that will leave a lasting impression.
The show is said to be inspired by the diversity of Latin America, specifically looking at the relationship that exists between the flamenco and the music of Venezuela.
An overlooked area of flamenco history, the early 1900s will be the focus of the show, in which many Spanish performers decided to make the transition from Europe to Latin America. Peña will utilise his acclaimed guitar skills to bring this era to life; effortlessly filling the room with the delights and sounds of glorious world music.
A Spanish guitarist himself, Peña has enjoyed a long career that has spanned many decades. He has been playing the instrument since the age of 6 and has been a professional musician from the early age of 12. Then, rather than tour the coasts of Spain as part of folk bands and dance acts, he moved to London where he continued to hone his skills and wow audiences as a solo artist, meaning that he appeared on stages alongside some of the greats, from Jimi Hendrix to John Williams.
Since those days in the 1960s he has been seen on stages all around the world, including the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam, the prestigious Royal Albert Hall in London and New York’s Carnegie Hall. He has also set up groups such as the Centro Flemanco Paco Peña in Cordoba, where he was born. This group subsequently set up a well known guitar festival that audiences enjoy on an annual basis.
Whilst “Flamenco Sin Fronteras” is his most recent show, he has cemented his name with many well known compositions, such as “Requiem for the Earth” and “Misa Flamenca”, which have earned him worldwide recognition.
In bringing “Flamenco Sin Fronteras” to life, Sadler’s Wells will be inundated with 4 dancers from the company that Peña founded, 12 musicians and singers, plus as guest dancer. As a result, audiences can expect a captivating evening of unbeatable entertainment.
