Synopsis

Director Howard Davies returns to his Laurence Olivier Award winning production of “All My Sons” in a new revival for the Apollo Theatre. This adaptation of Arthur Miller’s Greek Tragedy-inspired play is set to arrive in the West End from May of 2010, featuring two well known actors, adding to the mix of award winning talent on show.

Whilst Davis won his Laurence Olivier Award for “All My Sons” at the National Theatre in 2000, one of his stars Zoe Wanamaker received the award for best actress in a production of “Electra” at the Donmar Warehouse in 1997. They go well alongside David Suchet’s (Joe Keller) BAFTA Award Nomination, his Royal Television Society Award and his International Emmy, meaning that this show is likely to be a very special treat for theatregoers in the new decade.

When Suchet steps into the shoes of Joe Keller he will be bringing years of experience to the role, having performed on the stage for many years and cemented his talents in the hearts of UK audiences with his screen portrayal of Hercule Poirot for ITV. He will certainly add an emotional depth to Keller as he is accused of selling defective engines for fighter planes battling it out in the skies of the Second World War. It is a mistake that not only casts him under intense scrutiny for the deaths of many pilots; it also tears apart his life at home as his son is feared to be one of those killed. This leads to the Keller household tearing itself apart as drama and confrontation rise to the surface, with Mrs Keller (Wanamaker) unable to cope with the loss of her son and watching in horror as the boy’s fiancé finds solace in one of his siblings.

It is a story of corruption as greed, guilt, love and betrayal come to fruition in Arthur Miller’s powerful play, with a hidden family secret waiting for the Kellers as the tension rises.

As well as his awards and screen credits, Suchet has many theatrical roles to his name, having starred in the likes of “Complicit” at the Old Vic in 2009, “Once In A Lifetime” at the Olivier National Theatre in 2005, “Man and Boy” at the Duchess Theatre in 2005, “Amadeus” at the Old Vic in 1998 and “Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf?” at the Aldwych Theatre in 1997.

Meanwhile Wanamaker, best known for her portrayal of Susan Harper in “My Family” and Madame Hooch in “Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone”, has appeared in the likes of Sophocle’s “Electra” at the Donmar Warehouse in 1997, “Much Ado About Nothing” at the Olivier National Theatre in 2007 and “Boston Marriage” at the Donmar Warehouse in 2001.

“All My Sons” is at the Apollo Theatre on Shaftesbury Avenue from Thursday 27th May 2010 (previews from Wednesday 19th May 2010) to Saturday 11th September 2010.
