Fans of Boy George will soon have a chance to witness him performing in the flesh this December as he makes a triumphant return to the stage of the Leicester Square Theatre.
It was on this stage in 2002 and 2003 that he presented his musical “Taboo” based on his life, making it a fitting place to showcase “Boy George In Concert” this winter season. It will be a great opportunity to witness this Tony Award nominated performer in a great location, giving a unique experience to fans and newcomers alike.
“Boy George In Concert” will be no normal performance with a huge stage show, huge crowds and an impersonal atmosphere. Instead, the singer-songwriter will be offering a more intimate deal, described as “up close and personal”; it will be an unplugged acoustic gig that will feel more personal as he performs classic songs, some of which will be covers amongst his own solo hits and his records from Culture Club. No-one will want to miss this multi-talented artist, lyricist, singer and musician at the Leicester Square Theatre.
Boy George is a performer with a reputation, having enjoyed a monumentally successful career that has spanned three decades, beginning with his emergence in the early 1980s as part of the New Romantic movement. It was with Culture Club that he first found success during this decade, later appearing in the group Jesus Loves You and then enjoying a successful solo career. His time in the spotlight has seen him sell in excess of 50 million records around the world, cementing his status as a pioneer of androgyny and an international star.
He has also worked for the West End, having presented his own life story in the form of “Taboo” in 2002/2003. It enjoyed a two year run at the Leicester Square Theatre and was also see on Broadway, landing a Tony Award nomination for “Best Musical Score”, as well as nominations for a Drama Desk Award and a Theatre World Award. But whilst the show detailed the life of the famous singer-songwriter, he decided to take on the role of Leigh Bowery (a role that would be played by Matt Lucas at a later date).
“Boy George In Concert” provides audiences with a unique experience before the performer heads out on a European tour in 2010. It appears at the Leicester Square Theatre from Sunday 20th December 2009 to Wednesday 30th December 2009.
