A single evening of celebrations with Martin Shaw will be appearing soon at the Theatre Royal Haymarket this October, with audiences given the opportunity, not only to witness an entertaining show, but also to provide money to charity.
The evening “Horses’ Tales” aims to raise money for The Horse Refuge, with a show that features performers Martin Shaw, Jenny Seagrove and Nichola McAuliffe taking to the stage and performing various works of poetry, stories and prose, all of which related to horses. Whilst this transpires, the proceedings will be backed up by the sounds of musician and classical guitarist Simon James.
The Horse Refuge is an organisation that has been protecting the wellbeing of horses since 1995. It was created with the aim of putting a stop to horrendous acts of cruelty that are regularly inflicted upon sick and unwanted animals. Their work in the area means that they take care of many distressed horses that may have been unfairly treated through no fault of their own, either through physical or mental disability or other means.
The show could not be appearing at the West End at a better time, with various horse-related shows making big impressions on stages in London already. It is a thought that was echoed in the press release in September, which pointed out the recent success stories such as “War Horse”, “Ben Hur” and “Equus”, making “Horses’ Tales” a welcome contribution to the stage, celebrating the many ways in which horses have beneficial to us as people.
Martin Shaw is an award winning English actor who has landed many accolades over the years whilst starring in an array of television and theatrical productions. Starting with more recent shows, he has appeared in “A Man For All Seasons” at the Haymarket Theatre (2005), “Rough Justice” at the Apollo Theatre (1994), “Betrayal” at the Almeida Theatre (1991), “They’re Playing Our Song” at the Shaftesbury Theatre (1981) and “The Bacchae” at the National Theatre (1973). As well as these, he also featured in “An Ideal Husband”, which appeared on Broadway in 1996, landing him awards that included A Theatre World Special Award for Ensemble Performance and a Drama Desk Critic’s Choice Award for Outstanding Featured Actor in a Play, as well as a nomination for a Tony Award.
Many will also recognise him for his television work, which has encompassed “Coronation Street”, “Cranford” and the title role in “Judge John Deed”.
“Horses’ Tales” makes its appearance at the Theatre Royal Haymarket on Sunday 18th October 2009.
