Every year proves to be a good one for the makers of “Strictly Come Dancing” as the popular show continues to bring in high viewing figures, with talk of who stays and who goes dominating discussions around the office. 2009 is no different as the seventh series brings in the viewers once again and cements its status as an event as well as a television programme. But with the fantastic series comes something even better just around the corner, with “Strictly Come Dancing Live 2010” hitting the road in the New Year.
Cities across the country can all boast monumental figures from the 2009 tour and Liverpool is no exception, with the Liverpool Echo Arena attracting more than 5,000 people to its auditorium and forcing the organisers this year to add an extra date to proceedings.
The live show mirrors the television programme, proving it to be perfect for translating to the stage. On TV audiences are regularly treated to Tess Daly and Bruce Forsyth presenting a show filled with celebrity contestants, seasoned professionals and sceptical judges as dances like the Tango are performed under the judges’ scrutinising eyes. The show can regularly attract up to 9 million viewers each week, meaning that millions of people are glued to their television sets, eagerly awaiting the news of who will win. The 2009 series included judges such as Bruno Tonioli, Craig Revel Horwood, Len Goodman and Alesha Dixon, whilst contestants proved once more that talent is in abundance.
Though the format could change, 2009 saw the Liverpool Echo Arena filled with audiences eager to witness the likes of Tom Chambers, Rachel Stevens, Jodie Kidd, Julian Clarey, Jill Halfpenny, Gethin Jones, Kenny Logan and Cherie Lunghi strut their stuff. The first forty five minutes consisted of the dances, with the audiences able to cast their vote during the interval. Then, when the lights went down in the second half they were treated to the group dance, the professional dance and eventually the moment of truth – the announcement of the winner.
Since Liverpool enjoyed 2008 as the European Capital of Culture, there has been a massive rejuvenation in the city centre, making it a great place to witness a wide variety of shows, sporting events and more. Amongst these the Liverpool Echo Arena has attracted some big name acts and wowed audiences in the North West, making it a great place to witness the dancers take to the stage.
