Each year audiences rush to arenas in cities across the country for a chance to witness the stars of “Strictly Come Dancing” take to the stage. With the seventh series of the popular BBC show hitting screens at the end of 2009, it can only mean that the live tour of 2010 is just around the corner!
Nottingham audiences will have a chance to catch it all in late January, with audiences undoubtedly flocking to the Trent FM Arena for a chance to see the panel of judges cast their votes against the talented stars. When the tour appeared in the East Midland’s city in 2009, demand was so high that extra dates needed to be added in February, meaning that fans are encouraged to make sure they get their tickets before they sell out.
The popularity is of little wonder considering the compelling competition audiences love when it appears on their television screens. Each week, Bruce Forsyth and Tess Daly present a tense and captivating spectacle as celebrity contestants try their hands at famous dances alongside world class dance partners, from the tango to the mambo and everything in between. But at the end of each dance comes a moment everyone dreads – facing the judges, which most recently featured Bruno Tonioli, Craig Revel Horwood, Len Goodman and Alesha Dixon, who decide who gets to stay and who gets to go.
It is a tense spectacle that translates perfectly to the live setting as arenas are filled with screaming fans witnessing stars from series new and old take on the same battle. 2009’s tour saw Rachel Stevens and Tom Chambers take to the stage, whilst the rest of the stars were rounded up by the likes of Julian Clarey, Jill Halfpenny and Jodie Kidd. During the first half of the show, audiences were treated to forty five minutes of dancing in which to make their decision, casting a vote in the subsequent interval. This was followed by the group dance, the professional dance and ultimately, the moment everyone awaits in nervous anticipation – the announcement of the winner. So whilst the panel of judges, straight from television, were on hand, the deciding vote was down to you, the viewer.
