Synopsis

Celebrated as one of the best quick-change artists in the world, Arturo Brachetti will be making a triumphant appearance on the stage of the Garrick Theatre this October with “Change”, a show from Sean Foley.

Bachetti is a well known quick-change artist in his native Italy and his skills have landed him accolades that include the title of the fastest quick-change artist in the world according to the Guinness Book of Records 2006 and 2007. It is not bad for a man who was born in Turin in 1957 and spent a lot of time in his early years frequenting a seminary, where a priest taught him magic.

It means that his name is a celebrated one and he has been seen around the world, from stages in Italy to Montreal. As well as world records, he is also the proud recipient of the Laurence Olivier Award for Most Promising Newcomer (1983), which he won for his show “Y”, which he has since followed up with the likes of “The Covent Garden Christmas Gala” in 1983, “Square Rounds” at the National Theatre and a production of “The Man With A Thousand Faces”, which made its world premiere at Montreal’s “Just For Laughs” festival. The latter show managed to add to his extensive awards collection with recognition in France and Canada. Television viewers may recognise him from appearances in “a Night Of Magic” (from Disneyland Paris” and “The Best Of Magic” in the UK.

In “Arturo Brachetti – Change”, the artist will take to the stage and portray a range of legendary characters with the plot following an artiste of the golden age of cabaret, with his successful and fulfilling career appearing onstage. The show will put Brachetti’s quick-change skills to the test as he moves between renditions of well known characters like James Bond, as well as real world figures such as Johnny Rotten and even the Queen.

The show has been written and directed by Sean Foley, who is well known as one half of the double act The Right Size alongside Hamish McColl. As part of The Right Size, his television appearances include “Brass Eye”, “Happiness” and “People Like Us”, whilst he has also had stage roles in a range of West End productions. These include “Mr Puntila and his Man Matti” at the Almeida Theatre and “The Play What I Wrote” at the Wyndham’s Theatre.

“Arturo Brachetti – Change” appears at the Garrick Theatre from Monday 26th October 2009 (previews from Monday 19th October 2009) to Sunday 3rd January 2010.
