A brand new production celebrating the ups and downs of the iconic Marilyn Monroe will be making its way to the Leicester Square Theatre this October in the form of “Marilyn: Forever Blonde, The Marilyn Monroe Story in Her Own Words and Music”, which features Sunny Thompson, a well known addition to the charts in Spain, in the lead role.
Audiences will witness the life story of the star transpire onstage, with the help of 17 songs and the writing talent of Greg Thompson, whose words will be directed onstage with the help of Stephanie Shine.
Everyone is familiar with Marilyn Monroe. She was one of the true stars of the twentieth century, becoming a symbol of her era, whilst embodying the Hollywood of the mid twentieth century. She starred in an array of hit movies, whilst also performing some well known songs, before suffering an untimely death in the 1960s. Her credits included “Monkey Business”, “There’s No Business Like Show Business”, “The Misfits”, “How To Marry A Millionaire”, “The Seven Year Itch” and “Gentlemen Prefer Blondes”. However, her private life, as well as a range of specific appearances became more well known than her movies in time, with one of her most iconic moments wishing Happy Birthday to then-President John F Kennedy becoming engraved in history. She also had a range of well known marriages to the likes of James Dougherty, Joe DiMaggio and Arthur Miller. In her latter years, her illnesses and unreliability became larger talking points as she would repeatedly turn up on set late, delaying many of the productions she starred in.
“Marilyn: Forever Blonde” picks up in these later years, in the time of her life that she was heading towards her early death. She is in her late thirties and she is haunted by the idea that she is past her peak, with the buzz and excitement that surrounded her early years beginning to waver. She is also struggling with public life, suffering at the hand of three divorces and Hollywood’s fickle dynamics. Whilst the world continues to view her as a sex symbol, Monroe yearns for a different kind of attention – someone who will love her for who she is.
Sunny Thompson has appeared in a range of music videos whilst also performing in songs of her own, that have made her name in Spain. She has appeared on stages around the world, with her well known single “Te Necesito” being her best known hit.
