Synopsis

London’s Arts Theatre welcomes former model Robyn Peterson to its stage in 2009 as her popular show “Catwalk Confidential”, which has already been seen in Los Angeles and the 2009 Edinburgh Festival Fringe, makes its way to theatreland.

It is part autobiography, part fiction, with romance also thrown into the mix, chronicling Peterson’s climb to the top of the fashion ladder, and then her subsequent fall from grace.

Peterson was the most successful model in the world at her peak, appearing in a range of publications and working with top fashion designers to bring her to the front covers of Vogue and Marie Claire. However, she is also familiar to audiences for her appearances in television programmes and movies since the 1980s, including “Miami Vice” (1986), “Flight Of The Navigator” (1986), “Baby Boom” (1988), “L.A Law” (1990), “Melrose Place” (1994), “The Sopranos” (1999), “View From The Top” (2003), “Going Shopping” (2005) and most recently appearing in the television series “Cold Case” (2009).

“Catwalk Confidential” takes us back to the earliest part of her career, as a young Robyn is talent spotted by Valentino in Miami at the age of 16, thrusting her from her humble background to the fast times of the Parisian catwalk in the 1970s – a world of high fashion and world altering lifestyles. It is a brave new world, where her undeniable beauty and talents for the game allow her to become the most successful in her field, working with the leading names in fashion including Karl Lagerfield, Kenzo and Yves Saint Laurent, with photographers such as Guy Bourdin and Helmut Newton taking her picture.

But it is not a lifestyle that can last forever and Robyn learns this the hard way. Success in the world of fashion comes at a price, with the fickle industry causing her fall from the top as its obsession with youth and outer beauty becomes clear. Robyn learns that in such a competitive industry, older models are sure to be quickly replaced by younger ones who are eagerly waiting in line.

The show is the brainchild of Robyn Peterson and the director Tony Abatemarco.

“Catwalk Confidential” makes its appearance at the Arts Theatre in London from Wednesday 9th September 2009 (with previews from Friday 4th September 2009) until Saturday 3rd October 2009.
