Synopsis

Audiences will be travelling to the Vaudeville Theatre this September for Alan Cumming’s solo show “I Bought A Blue Car Today”. It is a show that has won admirers due its performances in New York and the Lincoln Center and will be arriving in London for its European premiere.

The actor will be making his way to the stage with what is described as a cabaret show in which he will perform a series of songs. Between them audiences will be treated to anecdotes that make up his colourful life story, but when the songs begin, this is where the show comes to life, with the likes of Frank Sinatra, Kander & Ebb and Cyndi Lauper all celebrated onstage. To help in this endeavour he will be employing the Emmy-award winning talents of composer Lance Horne. It will make for a unique evening of storytelling and top quality music from the Scottish star.

Cumming is a well known actor who has been providing audiences with performances for the stage and film for many years. Many will recognise him for his starring roles in the likes of “X2”, in which he played Nightcrawler, and “Goldeneye”, in which he played the Russian computer programmer Boris Ivanovich Grishenko. His other screen roles include the “Spy Kids” trilogy, “Plunkett and Macleane” and the television series “Sex And The City” (guest role) and “The High Life”.

But his stage work is just as extensive, with two wins at separate Laurence Olivier Awards for his performances in “Cabaret” at the Donmar Warehouse and “Accidental Death Of An Anarchist” at the Royal National Theatre. However, he has also appeared in “The Bacchae” at the Lyric Hammersmith, “Bent” at the Trafalgar Studios and a touring version of “Hamlet”. As well as these, he has also appeared repeatedly on Broadway and this will continue soon with the announcement that he will play the Green Goblin in a stage version of Spider Man in “Spider Man: Turn Off The Dark”.

“Alan Cumming: I Bought A Blue Car Today” makes its appearance at the Vaudeville Theatre from Tuesday 1st September 2009 and will continue to Sunday 6th September 2009.
