Synopsis

Audiences arriving at the Duchess Theatre in December will be able to pick up some sex advice as Wolfgang Weinberger dishes out his thoughts in a lecture-style show entitled “A Guide to Sexual Misery”. The production has already had people screaming with laughter at the Vienna Concert Hall, the 2008 Edinburgh Festival Fringe and during a run at the Leicester Square Theatre earlier in the year, with more than half a million people passing through the doors across all of the shows.

If you have a great sex life then you are one of the lucky ones and the press material for the show is quick to point out that “Everyone else in the audience does not”. As a result, “A Guide to Sexual Misery” aims to explore why this is the case, taking the form of a hilarious sex therapy guide. It has already been declared as a funny production – one that will give you plenty of pleasure even if it doesn’t quite turn your sex life upside down. You will be treated to well devised insights into the world of sex, delivered by Weinberger’s infectiously enthusiastic tone, making it something you are bound to remember for many years to come.

The Austrian sexologist will draw on audience participation to help him with his quest, but do not fear, this does not mean that he will be getting everyone onstage to take part in demonstrations. Instead he indulges himself in splitting the room, dividing the room into the men and the women who must hum to get a response. It makes for an interesting experience and one that will leave people wondering what it is they have learnt from it all.

It’s a show with great gags, some truths and some reassurances that we are all normal and no problem can be attributed to a single person. For anyone with a sex life of any kind, it is a must see event.

And it all comes to the Duchess theatre, one of the smaller venues in London with just under 500 seats across two levels. It has hosted a wide range of shows since it first opened back in 1929 , with some big name productions making up its long history, from Noel Coward to J B Priestley amongst those whose work has been seen here.

“A Guide To Sexual Misery” is at the Duchess Theatre from Friday 11th December 2009 (previews from Monday 30th November 2009) to Thursday 31st December 2009.
