After a successful summer at the Savoy Theatre in 2009, Dreamboats and Petticoats once again returns to the westend in early 2010. Witness the 1950s and 1960s come alive with the hits of the era recreated on stage and a heart warming story unfolds in front of your eyes. If the title sounds familiar, that’s because it was first circulated as a 2007 album that featured many of the songs that are on display here, from the music of The Shadows to Eddie Cochran.
“Dreamboats & Petticoats” takes us back to 1961 during an era when the population was embracing rebellion and rock’n’roll was the sound of the time. Our story focuses on Norman and Bobby, two young musicians who are often found arguing and competing for the hearts of women – particularly the hearts of those who already adore their music. But it is one woman that both of them have their sights on and her name is Laura – utterly irresistible and capable turning every head in a room. But she’s not just a pretty face – she knows guitar and it is her talent that could push things to rock stardom.
This rock’n’roll musical has been written by Laurence Marks and Maurice Gran, whose work is familiar to all of those who have seen sitcoms such as “The New Statesman”, “Shine On Harvey Moon”, “Birds Of A Feather” and “Goodnight Sweetheart”, making them highly sought writers. Expect a feel good evening when you witness “Dreamboats & Petticoats” as the heart warming story combines with the nostalgia of the time.
As for the songs, expect the likes of “Happy Birthday Sweet 16”, “To Know Him Is To Love Him”, “Three Steps To Heaven” and many more.
“Dreamcoats & Petticoats” is at the Playhouse Theatre from 7th Jan 2010 to end of May 2010.
