Shakespeare’s classic arrives in Regent Park’s Open Air Theatre in 2009 for what promises to be a pleasing revival of a well known play. Often celebrated as one of Shakespeare’s wittiest stories, “Much Ado About Nothing” takes audiences to the Mediterranean home of our well loved characters, where love is a huge theme, but this is no standard romantic affair and love will not take an expected path this time around.
“Much Ado About Nothing” features two kinds of battle – one is fought at war and the other between lovers. As some heroes return from war there is a new battle about to commence. We are introduced to two different sets of lovers, one in the form of Beatrice and Benedick, the other in the form of Claudio and Hero. The former have a strange relationship with the pair thinking that they hate each other, only to discover their true feelings of love later on. The latter’s relationship is also about to go down an unexpected path, as Claudio and Hero are about to be married, however this is torn apart by the jealousy of Don Pedro, who seeks to break up the wedding. Expect an ending that reflects the comedy of the piece as everyone involved realises that the proceedings have been much ado about nothing…
Shakespeare’s comedy has been hailed a classic throughout the centuries and arrives at the Open Air Theatre in Regent’s Park under the direction of Timothy Sheader.
