Synopsis

The West End is the best place for comedy in 2009 as Ed Byrne takes to the Vaudeville Stage, showcasing his current show “Different Class” to London audiences in September.

The Irish comic will be bringing his self confessed whimsical style to the venue hot on the heels of various national comedians such as Eddie Izzard, Bill Bailey and Rob Brydon and showing off what has made him such a huge draw in his long career.

It’s difficult to think of a time in which Ed Byrne hasn’t been an integral part of the British comedy scene, with a career that took off in the 1990s and continues strong to this day. Like many Irish comedians, he appeared in the cult television comedy “Father Ted” alongside the likes of Ardal O’Hanlon and went on to have a successful career. Many know him these days as a regular contributor to the hit BBC panel show “Mock The Week”, though he has appeared on them all, bringing in the laughs on the likes of “Have I Got New For You”, “Never Mind The Buzzcocks” and “8 Out Of 10 Cats”. He has also appeared on the likes of “The Unbelievable Truth” for BBC Radio 4 and the flagship stand up comedy show for the BBC One “Live At The Apollo”.

And it is his stand up skills that he will be bringing to the Vaudeville Theatre, following his many years making regular appearances at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival. He is consistent in managing to bring in big crowds and in 1998 he was nominated for the prestigious Perrier Award, which firmly placed him on the map and he has since been seen performing all around the world. His shows cover a variety of topics, including his well known stripping apart of Alanis Morissette’s song “Ironic”, which re-surfaced on his 2006 DVD “Pedantic And Whimsical”, recorded in Leeds from his 2005 tour.

In “Different Class”, Ed Byrne updates audiences on where his life is now as he touches on topics of class and age as he tears apart the youth of today and marriage, whilst reflecting on his recent move away from the city and into the countryside.

“Ed Byrne: Different Class” is at the Vaudeville Theatre from Monday 7th September 2009 to Saturday 19th September 2009.
