Synopsis

The Australian performer Sammy J will be bringing his comic style to the Leicester Square Theatre this July for five nights of his new show “In the Forest of Dreams”.

Sammy is joined onstage by a whole cast of puppets in the production, who will be controlled by the award winning puppeteer Heath McIvor. It promises to be a hilarious evening that will make people look at stories from their own childhood in a completely different way. It will also feature music, as well as inspired story telling as the audience is taken on a humorous and magical journey.

Already seen around the world and at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival in 2008, “Sammy J: In the Forest of Dreams” features a host of characters, including Sammy J himself as well as Terry, the cute squirrel. In the show they are transported to another realm, full of various creatures and species where they must travel through it and battle an evil king. But this is no kids show; this is a story strictly for adults and features all manner of cute beings enacting crude and hilarious behaviour.

The show has been winning rave reviews from around the world, with the Scotsman newspaper saying “Comedian Sammy J and his puppeteer sidekick Heath McIvor are fiendishly talented writers and performers”, whilst international acclaim has been dished out by Australian and New Zealand newspapers as well. The show promises to be a hilarious evening, with audiences who have seen it enjoying every moment as the slick writing paves way for moments of inspired improvisation.

But some people might ask - who is Sammy J? He is a brilliant young comedian from Australia, who has been enjoying a successful career despite being only 25 (or 26 when the show arrives in London). He has performed all over the world at the Melbourne Comedy Festival, the Adelaide Fringe Festival and of course the Edinburgh Fringe and has released various CDs of his work. These include “The Burden of Popularity” and “Sticky Digits”. He has also appeared on television in his native Australia.

“Sammy J: In the Forest of Dreams” is at the Leicester Square Theatre from Tuesday 28th July 2009 to Saturday 1st August 2009.
