Synopsis

June 2009 will be a time for audiences to revisit the classic songs of Judy Garland as Jim Bailey arrives in town for a special 40th Anniversary Concert at the Leicester Square Theatre. Garland died four decades ago in June 1969 and would be 87 years old if she was still alive today, but she has left behind a lasting legacy, not only in her children Liza Minnelli, Lorna Luft and Joey Luft, but also in her music with famous songs such as “Over The Rainbow”.

However, Jim Bailey is hardly an unknown having performed all over the world and even appeared in front of Garland herself back in 1968. That was the decade that Bailey first broke out and using his training as a professional singer was able to mimic the styles of some well known and well loved stars, from Garland to Barbra Streisand and Peggy Lee. He would headline stages in well known cities from London to Las Vegas as well as making appearances on Variety Shows and various other Television productions. His talents have provided him with the opportunities to duet with well known voices, including Garland’s daughter Liza Minelli (meaning that they are now friends) and even Garland herself when she famously jumped onstage in his own LA nightclub.

But his impressive stage performance also means that any audience who witnesses his show will be following in the footsteps of Royal Family members and US Presidents, who have all experienced his classic impersonations.

So this is for fans of music and Judy Garland alike, with the work of Jim Bailey the best way to revisit the voices of the past. Garland herself was 47 when she died, but for 45 of those years she was an international star, most famous for playing the iconic roles of Dorothy in The Wizard of Oz (1939). She also appeared in Babes In Arms and A Star Is Born and over the years appeared alongside the likes of Mickey Rooney. She also sung some classic songs, so when fans arrive at the Leicester Square Theatre in 2009 they will be treated to the likes of “Over the Rainbow”, “The Trolley Song”, “Get Happy” and “The Man that got Away”.

Jim Bailey as Judy Garland the 40th Anniversary Concert is at the Leicester Square Theatre from Tuesday 9th June 2009 to Sunday 14 June 2009.
