It’s time to revisit the world that captivated audiences in 2001 as Legally Blonde: The Musical arrives on a London stage. Witness Elle Woods as she makes something of herself at Law school and enjoy the looks on everyone’s faces when she arrives for her first day of classes. Legally Blonde is the classic story of being true to yourrself and taking life to the limits.
The production will feature performing talents from none other than Sheridan Smith and Duncan James, two faces who will bring the roles made famous by Reece Witherspoon and Luke Wilson to life. Smith is perhaps best known for appearing in the hit BBC Three sitcom Two Pints Of Lager And A Packet Of Crisps, but she has also appeared in the likes of Benidorm with Johnny Vegas, Grown Ups, The Royle Family and Love Soup. Meanwhile Duncan James has made a name for himself after wowing adoring crowds as one member of the boy band Blue and recently appearing in the ITV celebrity talent show Dancing On Ice.
However, they have also appeared in various theatrical productions over the years with James appearing in a recent production of Chicago in which he took on the role of the famous lawyer Billy Flynn. Meanwhile, Smith has appeared in the likes of Into The Woods at the Donmar Warehouse, Bugsy Malone at the Queen’s Theatre (1998) and A Little Shop of Horrors at the Duke of York’s Theatre (2007).
Their co star Alex Gaumond joins them in Legally Blonde: The Musical after appearing in productions such as The Fully Monty at the Prince Of Wales Theatre (2002) and Desperately Seeking Susan at the Novello Theatre (2007).
The show is a new musical production of the 2001 movie in which we are introduced to the character of Elle Woods. At the start of the story she has a boyfriend but he soon dumps her citing his need for someone a little more serious. But Elle will not take this one sitting down so she pulls herself together and decides to become more serious herself. She rids herself of credit cards and all of the things that are holding her back, picks up the books and eventually enrols at Harvard law to study for a degree. It is the great story of being true to oneself and following dreams.
