Synopsis

In 1989 children around the world were introduced to an exciting new adventure by Michael Rosen in the form of We’re Going On A Bear Hunt. Now, on the stage of the Duchess Theatre this popular story is adapted for a live audience in a production that will bring this classic world to life. Rosen has written many books over the years, totalling around 140 with most of them aimed at children. He has a distinctive style that has found many young fans and has received praise from various groups for trying to lay the foundations for future talent; touring school to promote poetry. He has many awards to his name and in 2007 he was made a Children’s Laureate, a title he will hold until this year. Last year he was also honoured with a Knight of the Order of Arts, handed out by the Government of France.

We’re Going On A Bear Hunt will try its best to find its younger audience with daytime showings through the summer. It focuses on the adventure of a family’s search for a bear. Four children and their father take this exciting journey as they wade through mud and search high and low for this fury animal. The stage adaptation first appeared at the Old Vic Theatre in Bristol, where it was directed by Sally Cookson. She returns as it finds its way to the Duchess, bringing with her the designs of Katie Sykes and the score of Benji Bower.

This is not the first production in which the three talents produced a popular show. The Ugly Ducking recently appeared at the Lyric Hammersmith studio and their other productions have managed UK tours, including Papa Please Get The Moon For Me and Fables by Aesop. With the three of them working together they bring a wealth of experience to the stage and will create a world that will be truly captivating for children. As they are familiar with each other’s work we can also expect a great production from a successful team.

We’re Going On A Bear Hunt will appear for daytime shows at the Duchess Theatre. It is playing during the summer from Thursday 9th July 2009 to Sunday 16th August 2009.
