Marilyn Monroe was a screen icon, remembered after the 47 years since her death for her good looks, her starring roles, her beautiful voice and of course all of the controversies surrounding her troubled life. She starred in twenty nine hit films over the short time frame of only sixteen years, she sung many famous songs and she was even romantically linked to the President John F Kennedy, a controversial predicament for anyone. Now, to celebrate this great star, Marilyn Monroe is brought back to life at the Apollo Theatre, with British ballerina Zara Deakin transforming into the iconic actress. The show is brought to us under the amazing choreography of acclaimed Laurence Olivier Award winning performer Peter Schaufuss and promises to be a great night for fans of Monroe alike.
Along the way the show will feature some of those classic songs Monroe was known for performing, including the likes of Wanna Be Loved By You, Kiss Me and My Heart Belongs To Daddy. We will witness her upbringing in a troubled household, with a schizophrenic mother and various foster homes, then we will be witnesses to her journey to the top, where her huge fame failed to bring her the happiness she deserved.
There are many things that Monroe will be remembered for, her film such as Some Like It Hot, There's No Business Like Show Business, Monkey Business, Gentlemen Prefer Blonds, How To Marry A Millionaire, The Seven Year Itch and The Misfits, her birthday message to President Kennedy and even the famous marriages to James Dougherty in the 1940s, DiMaggio in 1954 and Arthur Miller in 1956. She managed this fame despite the many setbacks, including her typecasting as a dumb blonde which dictated a large number of her film roles, then her illnesses and personal issues which made her late for work and delayed movies. But we remember her for her legacy and her timeless ability to amaze and entertain. Marilyn Monroe will remain an icon for years to come. And with Marilyn, at the Apollo Theatre you can witness how this star came to be.
