Synopsis

Mandy Patinkin will bring his solo show to the Duke of York's Theatre in January. The Tony, Golden Globe and Emmy Award winning actor is taking time out from film and television to bring his musical celebration Mandy Patinkin: In Concert to the London venue for a limited run in the New Year. When the entertainer did the same for Broadway, the praise was monumental; “The Greatest Entertainer on Broadway Today – Period” said the New York Post, whilst the New Yorker commented - “From Rodgers & Hammerstein to Sondheim, Schönberg to Irving Berlin & Cole Porter, Mandy Patinkin is in the business of showstopping”.

Patinkin has been an award winning Broadway star for many years and in this production Mandy Patinkin: In Concert the accomplished performer will return to the stage as a concert singer, showcasing and celebrating the work of composers like Stephen Sondheim, Irving Berlin, Harry Chaplin, Rodgers & Hammerstein and Cole Porter. Accompanying him on this musical journey is Paul Ford, the Broadway musician who will give the acclaimed production a veteran pianist’s touch. This promises to be an unforgettable show that will leave you craving more.

The multitalented Patinkin has made a name for himself with years of stage, film and television work. In musical theatre, he was brought to the public’s attention with the Broadway production of Evita (1979) where he played Che. He then appeared in Sondheim’s Sunday In The Park (1984) for which he received a Tony Award nomination. His first solo show followed, as Mandy Patinkin in Concert: Dress Casual hit the stage in 1989. 1990 brought Born Again at the Chichester Festival Theatre under the direction of Peter Hall, then in 1991 The Secret Garden. His movie credits include Dick Tracy, Everyone’s Hero, Ragtime, Men with Guns, Alien Nation, The Doctor, The Princess Bride and Yentl (receving a Golden Globe Award for his role as Avigdor). Finally, on television he has appeared in Dead Like Me, Criminal Minds, Chicago Hope and smaller parts in The X Files, The Simpsons and Touched By An Angel.

Pianist Paul Ford has played in productions such as Sunday in the Park with George, Assassins, Passion and Into the Woods.

Mandy Patinkin: In Concert will be at the Duke Of York’s Theatre from Thursday 8th January 2009 to Sunday 18th January 2009.
