The O2 Arena will be the backdrop for the spectacle that is The Blue Man Group as their innovative show arrives in the nation’s capital after The Megastar World Tour wows audiences the world over. The group has turned music on its head since its foundation, with its numerous nods to various worlds of musical itinerary. If you are one of those who are fortunate to be in the front row, you may even be provided with a poncho to stop your clothes being ruined from the foods and other projectiles flying from the stage.
Onstage, the Blue Man Group will create music and a stage show to be remembered with the use of various means of producing sound. These emotionless, mute, blue men dressed from neck to toe in black bring their unique art in the form of whirlpool drumming, marshmallow throwing and paint spitting. At the O2 arena, they will show off a multimedia show with the surreal world that they are known for, with slapstick, lightshows, videos and rock music. When you join the audience at the O2, you will be adding to the show’s popularity and becoming part of a group of people that already amounts to over two million audience members in the United States.
The group was founded by Phil Stanton, Chris Wink, and Matt Goldman and has its origins in New York where they were discovered by the Artistic Director of The CLUB, Meryl Vladimir. After she saw their work she convinced them to create a full length show, which went on to great popularity in the early nineties and after winning awards it was able to open on Broadway where it was housed at the Astor Place Theater in New York. On Broadway they managed to collect even more awards, including the Obie Award and the 1992 Lucille Lortel Awards, recognising excellence on Broadway.
Their show How To Be A Megastar is a showcase of dynamics, audience participation and rhythm. Onstage they are true artists who break all of the rules and rewrite the instruction manual on what constitutes as art and music.
The Blue Man Group are at the O2 Area on Sunday 15th February 2009.
