Synopsis

World renowned British comedian Eddie Izzard brings his nonsensical, stream of consciousness, brilliant comedy to the Lyric theatre on Shaftesbury Avenue this winter with a West End run that continues until 20th December 2008. It follows a sell out tour across the United States which included New York’s Radio City Music Hall amongst its thirty four cities. The critically acclaimed show will go on to run for twenty three nights through November and December and marks one of many visits for Izzard, to the West End.

Eddie Izzard is a well loved comedian who is known both in comedy as well as on television, stage and film. He has won numerous awards which includes the British Comedy Awards in 1993 for his show Live at the Ambassadors and again in 1996 for his show Definite Article. Since then he has found success in the United States as well, with his breakthrough show Dress To Kill broadcast on HBO, which has lead to him winning two Emmy awards in 2000. His previous West End credits include The Cryptogram by David Mamet, Lenny and A Day in the Death of Joe Egg. He has appeared onscreen in the films Mystery Men, Ocean’s Twelve and Thirteen, My Super Ex-girlfriend, Blueberry, Velvet Goldmine, Little Nicky, The Avengers and the upcoming Valkyrie. His stand up shows include the mentioned Live at the Ambassadors, Definite Article and Dress To Kill, and also include Unrepeatable, Glorious, Circle, Sexy and now Stripped – his first show in five years.

You may also remember Izzard’s voice from the Government’s television advertisements which promoted recycling.

Those who are familiar with Izzard’s style will be right at home with Stripped, which is the nonsensical, rambling man at his best, with meandering detours and tangents that twist and turn and leave audiences in stitches. Talking to Newsweek, Izzard says of Stripped “The set is leaner, what I'm wearing is leaner and just focusing on what I'm talking about. I keep talking about God and I come to all these different conclusions. I'm talking about the whole civilization, trying to strip that back, as well.”

Eddie Izzard – Stripped appears at the Lyrics Theatre on Shaftesbury Avenue from Monday 17th November 2008 to Saturday 20th December 2008.
