The London Hippodrome is finally restored as a world renowned performance space this winter, with the international sensation La Clique playing until February 2009. This mixture of circus sideshow, new burlesque, cabaret and vaudeville is a one of a kind, unmissable experience, which has wowed audiences around the world, including New York and Edinburgh. The Times describes the production by saying “From outrageously comic to drop dead sexy! The hottest ticket to transfer to London”, then adding “A fizzling, seductive combination of cabaret and variety show”. Metro calls it “An unmissable evening’s entertainment.” Three Weeks adds to the praise, calling La Clique “Sexy, daring and utterly stunning…the most spectacular show you’ll ever see.” The Scotsman tells us to “Do whatever it takes to get a front row seat.”
But amongst all of the reviews from the press, how does La Clique describe itself? They say they are a “melange of cabaret, new burlesque, circus sideshow and contemporary variety, a sexy, funny and dangerous experience”. The show contains a number of brilliant acts including the flexible and bendy Captain Frodo, the hula hoop Queen Yulia Pikhtina, the PVC wearing Miss Behave along with David O’Mer, Ursula Martinez, Mario – Queen of the Circus, The English Gents and Cabaret Decadanse. La Clique offers this audience an unforgettable experience that is both outrageous and beautiful.
After wowing audiences across the globe with peformers equally as deverse, travelling through Sydney, Melbourne, Montreal, Dublin New York and Edinburgh, La Clique now lands in London, giving the nation’s capital the kind of show unseen here for forty years. This sensation will change the way you view the West End!
The show is running at the Hippodrome, a performance centre with a rich history. First built as a water circus that contained a large pool for elephants, see lions and polar bears, the theatre has seen a whole host of acts over the years, from Houdini to Shirley Bassey. When first built, Hippodrome was a name attributed to lots of theatres, but this one is the one that survived. After spending some time as a private arts venue, it now returns with La Clique this season. It is something you should not miss.
La Clique has been running at the Hippodrome from Friday 10th October 2008 and will continue until Sunday 1st February 2008. It is not suitable for those under 18 years of age due to nudity and suggestive themes.
