Imagine This is a new musical from director Timothy Sheader and written by Glenn Benenbeim and David Goldsmith. It concerns the lives of ordinary people who are trapped in a Warsaw Ghetto. Bringing to life a devastating part of world history, Imagine This is a story of hope and courage, where even in the harshest of conditions, laughter and love can break free and imagination is the key to laughter. For this new musical, Berenbeim and Goldsmith have teamed with Israeli music composer Shuki Levy to create an uplifting score. Showing from 19 November 2008 with previews from 4 November 2008. Imagine This is a tale of hope and freedom in a world of chaos.
The story is set in Nazi-occupied Poland 1942. The Polish people exist in the ominous shadow of Hitler’s ‘Final Solution’. Yet all is not as it seems and spirit is in the air as group of actors in Warsaw’s Ghetto bring upbeat performances to the masses, instilling in them hope and optimism and letting their imaginations soar. Timothy Sheader shows us how love can triumph over evil and how even when things are at their worst, the human race can be at its most encouraging.
Imagine This started out life in the UK at the Theatre Royal in Plymouth in 2007. This musical theatre contains books and lyrics by Glenn Berenbeim and David Goldsmith. Berenbeim has had much success as a writer, having worked on TV shows such as CBS’s Touched by and Angel. Goldsmith has found fame for his work on stage and screen. He has written scripts and also come up with the songs for many films such as Thief of Always, Pepita and A Christmas Carol featuring Tim Curry and Whoopi Goldberg.
Other credits for this production include Liam Steel, who will be choreographing the show in the West End. Eugene Lee will create the visuals of war-torn Poland in 1942, his previous experience coming from the likes of Wicked, Sweeney Todd and Candide. Of course, Timothy Sheader directs, having had success with the musical in Plymouth in 2007 where it starred Annette McLaughlin and Stephen Ashfield
