Synopsis

The Theatre Royal Drury Lane is the final home of the famous Dawn French and Jennifer Saunders as around thirty years of working together finally has its climax in London’s West End. On Saturday 8th November French and Saunders will appear onstage for the final time on what is their farewell tour, saying goodbye to a long and celebrated career in television comedy. So don’t miss this chance to see the comedy duo for the final time. Since February, the show Still Alive has been touring the UK, showcasing the characters that made them famous in a show that has been celebrated for its hilarity.

The show features the new material plus the best characters created by French and Saunders and the sketches that have made them Britain’s best loved comedians for three decades. They are so loved that comedy website Chortle says “It means that their Still Alive tour is less of a comedy show, and more an act of worship”.

It says that they demonstrate “the irresistible strength of personality that got them where they are today”.

Who could disagree? These are the ladies that brought us comedy classics such as Absolutely Fabulous, The Vicar of Dibley and of course their own sketch shows. Who could forget, however, their appearances in genre-defining shows such as The Young Ones and Comic Strip Presents?

The Queen’s of Comedy met in the 1970s when they were both studying at London’s Central School of Speech and Drama. They shared a flat during this time and upon graduation formed a double act called The Menopause Sisters. However, it was not until they joined the Comic Strip, which was part of the Alternative Comedy scene in the early 1980s that they came to public attention.

Speaking about the new London show, French said “Can't wait. Bring it on! There's nothing like a live audience to change the colour of your pants!”

Saunders elaborates a little on that: “We're so excited about bringing the show to the West End and giving the audience a great night out packed full of laughs.  We've blended the best of our old material with the new and crammed it all into a couple of hours of great fun.  It's going back to basics for us and it's what we do best.”

French and Saunders – Still Alive is at the Theatre Royal Drury Lane from Wednesday 15th October 2008 until Saturday 8th November 2008.
