Tae-kwon-do experts take to the stage in Korea’s best selling show “Jump”, which arrives for another run at London’s Peacock Theatre.
It has already been seen on three separate runs at the venue, whilst audiences at the Edinburgh Festival and in New York have also watched in awe as the members of the Ye Gam Theatre Company take to the stage and demonstrate impressive feats of expertise. The show also features broad comedy, with physical demonstrations of hilarity at play amongst the spectacular martial arts.
“Jump” focuses on a pair of hapless burglars who are about to take on more than they can chew when they make the mistake of breaking into the household of a particular Korean family. Before they know what’s happening they are faced with a karate chopping mother, capable of breaking wooden planks in two; there’s the father who is an expert of weapons; there’s the uncle, donned in a track suit and landing horrendous blows whilst under the influence; and then there’s the grandfather, a Tae-kwon do expert who will certainly put the two in their place. This action packed story manages to showcase a range of martial arts skills, whilst also managing to find influences in sitcoms and acrobatics. It is not one to be missed.
The show is certain to appeal to a range of people, from those who love actions movies to those who love live comedy, whilst adrenaline junkies will also love the flips, mesmerising acrobatics and even the sword fights. There’s something for everyone and this is likely the reason why it has so many admirers, allowing it to find a permanent home in Seoul, with tour schedules that have seen it wow audiences in America, Asia and across Europe.
Whilst the dialogue is kept low key and the story is as mad cap as it is, “Jump” still manages to captivate audiences, keeping them glued to their seats throughout as the talented performers take to the stage. There’s even room for a little audience participation for those who wish to feel involved, whilst those who do not should make sure they avoid particularly vulnerable seats.
“Jump” makes its appearance at the Peacock Theatre from Tuesday 3rd November 2009 to Saturday 21st November 2009.
